So I am about 2 weeks from the impending birth of my third child. Whew! That is a scary thought process but only about half as scary as that in between time of “I have no clothes.” and can I still wear my maternity clothes? So I decided to sew myself a few more items. And the first of these is by one of my favorite pattern companies, New Horizons Designs. So here is my maternity version of the Tami Hoodie!
So first things first… this is not an exclusively maternity pattern so don’t worry if you are not pregnant. You can buy the Tami Hoodie pattern and then grab the maternity add on for an easy modification. As well as a huge size range from XXS to 3XL, this pattern has a ton of options including a zip accent, a zip up cut line, standard hood, crossover hood and thumbhole cuffs.
I chose the mostly plain-est options because I have to modify shirt patterns to accommodate my height as well as my preferred style. Because I never seem to “rush” back to the gym after birth I often spend some time in oversized clothing built for comfort. So I added a whooping 4 inches to the bodice and sleeves of this top.
I used a semi-thick custom knit for the pattern because we are heading into a temperamental Chicago summer which has hot days and cool nights. I used the standard hoodie because of the same concept. I don’t want to overheat but keep cool through the season.
Also there are inseam pockets or a kangaroo pocket option but I did not put one on because apparently diaper bags are going to be my new best friend this year. But the fit is amazing! The slightly gathered sides give me room for the next few weeks of rapid growth for my nugget and the length will keep me from being self conscious in the weeks to follow. I am trying to convince myself I don’t need 10 more of these!
So head over to New Horizons website and grab the Tami Hoodie… and the maternity add on if you need it! While you are there, check out all the other amazing patterns I will be sewing up over the next few months while I get back to normal! Thanks for stopping by and come back soon! I can’t wait to show you what’s next!!!!
